Description
Use RAPID'E.coli 2 for the direct enumeration of E.coli and coliforms for wide scope of application including Human Food Consumption, Animal Feed, Environmental Samples and Water Testing intended for human consumption waste water. RAPID'E.coli 2 Agar uses two chromogenic color reactions, β-D-galactosidase (GAL) and β-D-glucuronidase (GLUC), for the clear identification of E.coli and coliforms. For Water Testing application, after rehydration and autoclaving, cool to 47 ± 2°C and add 1.0 ml of RAPID'E.coli 2 Selective Supplement (3555298) per 100 ml agar, prior to pouring plates. Interfering flora in water is inhibited by the supplement making RAPID'E.coli 2 Agar a good choice for testing water for human consumption and untreated water (such as water from wells, lakes, and rivers) where standard media are often not suitable.
Principles
The principle of the medium relies on the simultaneous detection of two enzymatic activities, β-D-glucuronidase (GLUC) and β-D-galactosidase (GAL). These enzymes react with the chromogenic substrates present in the medium to produce specific colors:
Human Food, Animal Feed, Environmental Samples | Water Testing | |
E.coli | (GAL+/GLUC+) form violet to pink colonies |
(GAL+/GLUC+) form blue to violet colonies |
Others Coliforms | (GAL+/GLUC–) form blue colonies |
GAL+/GLUC–) form green colonies |
