Description

Description

Use TTC (triphenyltetrazolium chloride) 0.05%, a redox indicator, as a supplement to agar to assist in the detection and identification of E. coli and Enterobacter aerogenes, which form yellow colonies. Many other coliforms, including non-lactose fermenters, and Enterococci reduce TTC to triphenol formazan resulting in red or purple colonies.

TTC is a component of TTC Tergitol 7 Agar Plates, which are used for the detection and enumeration of coliforms in drinking water, other types of water samples, and foodstuffs. Additionally, TTC can be added to Slanetz and Bartley Agar where the formation of red or purple colonies indicates Enterococci.
