TTC Tergitol 7 Agar; Complete Medium, 10 plates #3563706

Use TTC Tergitol 7 Agar, a selective and differential medium, for the detection and enumeration of coliforms including E. coli in drinking water, other water sources, and in foodstuffs. The combination of Tergitol and TTC, to inhibit the growth of gram-positive and spore-forming gram-negative bacteria, prevent Proteus spp. swarming and differentiates coliforms by colony color.

Key Features and Benefits

• Many coliforms including E. coli and Enterobacter aerogenes form yellow colonies; lactose fermentation causing a local drop in pH, resulting in bromothymol blue changing from blue to yellow
• Other coliforms, including non-lactose fermenters, reduce TTC to triphenol formazan forming red or purple colonies
• Can be used after membrane filtration
• After subculture of yellow colonies using non-selective medium, further identification can include Kovacs Reagent (3555313) or Oxidase Test (3553834)
