The Bio-Rad Pastorex™ Staph Plus kit is a rapid latex agglutination test for the simultaneous detection of the fibrinogen affinity antigen (clumping factor), protein A, and the capsular polysaccharides of Staphylococcus aureus. A growing percentage of S. aureus (mainly methicillin-resistant (METHI-R or MRSA) strains) can elude detection in some agglutination tests because cell wall antigens (clumping factor and protein A) are masked. The Pastorex Staph Plus kit incorporates monoclonal antibodies to capsular polysaccharides as well as to cell wall antigens, thus reducing the risk of false negative results. This complete kit includes control, disposable cards, and sticks.
