Bio-Rad's PCR, reverse-transcription PCR (RT-PCR), and real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) reagents are designed and formulated to meet both conventional and real-time PCR requirements with minimal need for optimization. These reagents are components of the Bio-Rad Explorer classroom lab kits for teaching PCR. They are also available for purchase separately for use in educational settings, for example in special or science fair projects.
All reagents listed are qualified for use on Bio-Rad's complete line of thermal cyclers and real-time PCR detection systems. They demonstrate high performance for cDNA, genomic DNA, and plasmid DNA amplification over a wide dynamic range.
Standard PCR Master Mix, Enzyme, and Reagents
2x Master Mix for PCR is a concentrated solution of Taq DNA polymerase, dNTPs, MgCl2 and all the components required for PCR, except the DNA template and primers. This premixed formulation saves time and reduces contamination by reducing the number of pipetting steps required for PCR setup. The mix is optimized for efficient and reproducible PCR. The absence of endodeoxyribonucleases, exodeoxyribonucleases, and ribonucleases is confirmed by appropriate quality tests. The master mix is functionally tested in amplification of a single-copy gene from human genomic DNA.
iProof High-Fidelity (HF) PCR Master Mix is a 2x concentrated, ready-to use master mix that contains all the components needed for high-fidelity, long, or fast PCR for amplicons up to 37 kb. Simply add your template and primers to start your reactions. The iProof High-Fidelity Polymerase in the master mix incorporates the patented Sso7d fusion protein technology for accurate amplification of long products from a variety of DNA templates. iProof DNA Polymerase is 52-fold more accurate than Taq polymerase, and its high processivity dramatically reduces extension (15-30 sec/kb) and overall reaction times.
Individual master mix components are also available for sale individually and include the following:
- iTaq DNA Polymerase is an antibody-mediated hot-start DNA polymerase suitable for both conventional and real-time PCR applications that ensures ease of use and high specificity and sensitivity.
- dNTP Mix is formulated for optimal performance in real-time PCR applications and is also qualified for use in conventional PCR applications. It provides consistent, high-yield amplification.

Real-Time (qPCR) Supermixes
The SsoAdvanced Universal SYBR Green Supermix is a component of the Bio-Rad Explorer classroom lab kits for teaching real-time PCR. They and other Bio-Rad real-time supermixes are also available for purchase separately for use in educational settings, for example in special or science fair projects.
SsoAdvanced Universal SYBR Green Supermix is a high-performance real-time PCR supermix based on Bio-Rad's patented Sso7d fusion protein technology. It is formulated for a wide range of real-time PCR applications and delivers consistent performance in fast cycling across a broad range of reaction conditions, primer concentrations, and temperature ranges. It is compatible with all ROX-dependent or -independent real-time PCR systems.
iQ SYBR® Green Supermix contains SYBR Green I dye, hot-start iTaq DNA polymerase, optimized buffer, and dNTPs qualified for real-time qPCR. As another option, the iScript one-step RT-PCR kit with SYBR Green allows cDNA synthesis and PCR to be conveniently carried out in the same tube.
Reverse Transcription/cDNA Synthesis Kits
iScript cDNA Synthesis Kit is a sensitive and easy-to-use first-strand cDNA synthesis kit for gene expression analysis using real-time qPCR. This two-tube format (iScript reaction mix and iScript reverse transcriptase) is optimized to yield sensitive, unbiased representation over a broad dynamic range, with minimal setup and reaction time. Complete cDNA synthesis and qPCR on the same day with the 26-minute cDNA synthesis protocol.
iScript RT-qPCR Sample Preparation Reagent provides a simple and rapid procedure (< 10 min) for isolating total RNA from cultured cells to use for RT-qPCR. This reagent delivers efficient cell lysis and RNA stabilization for sensitive qPCR without traditional RNA sample preparation.
- Single-buffer formulation contains all the necessary components to perform cell lysis and RNA stabilization in 5-10 min
