Description
The pGLO Bacterial Transformation Kit for General Biology is a three-dimensional approach to the classic transformation lab. Teach core genetics concepts including gene expression and gene regulation using this hands-on and student-driven experimental design experience.
Features and Benefits
- Includes consumables and reagents for 12 laboratory workstations or 48 students
- Enables students to design and analyze two gene expression experiments
- Allows students to create and revise models to explain their observations
- Activities designed for three to five 50-minute class periods
Kit Activity Overview
- Observe fluorescent organisms and create models to explain observations
- Learn about plasmids and bacterial transformation
- Conduct a bacterial transformation experiment to collect data about the role of antibiotic selection markers
- Design and conduct and experiment to switch on the GFP gene in transformed bacteria
- Design a biosensor based on bacterial transformation to solve a real-world problem
