Description
Salmonella species are recognized as pathogenic germs. They should be therefore monitored in household and agricultural sewage, fresh water including ground and drinking water as well as sea water, where they may be present. Since cells of the Salmonella species may be injured in the aqueous environment, their differential diagnosis in water usually requires a pre-enrichment step. The international ISO 6340 and ISO/FDIS 19250 standard procedures consist of regular enrichment, selection and confirmation steps.
