Description
Description
CandiSelect is a selective chromogenic medium, which consists of a rich nutritive base including chromogenic substrates, which enable the detection of enzymatic activities specifically produced by yeasts, resulting in colonies with various pigmentations and allowing yeasts to be identified to species level by reading both color and morphological characteristics of the colonies. The presence of chloramphenicol and gentamicin inhibits the growth of most bacteria.
Chromogenic Assay
CandiSelect plates may be read within 24-48 hours incubation:
- C. albicans produce characteristic pink-purple colonies,
- C. tropicalis, C. glabrata and C. krusei produce blue-green colonies; the presumptive identification of each species relies on the color intensity associated with typical morphology of the colonies.
Principle
CandiSelect is a selective chromogenic medium, which consists of a rich nutritive base including chromogenic substrates, which enable the detection of enzymatic activities specifically produced by yeasts, resulting in colonies with various pigmentations and allowing yeasts to be identified to species level by reading both color and morphological characteristics of the colonies.
The presence of chloramphenicol and gentamicin inhibits the growth of most bacteria.
Intended Use
CandiSelect is a selective chromogenic agar medium for the isolation and differentiation of yeasts. CandiSelect allows for the direct identification of Candida albicans and the presumptive identification of some other pathogenic yeast species, in particular C. glabrata, C. tropicalis and C. krusei.
