Science Buddies is a nonprofit organization that provides free online programs and tools for millions of K–12 students and teachers to encourage and support hands-on science research projects. Science Buddies' extensive collection of helpful resources includes a large library of detailed project ideas in 30 different fields of science and engineering, including biotechnology, from which students can choose a topic for a hands-on science project.

As a major sponsor of Science Buddies, Bio-Rad provides financial support and vast scientific expertise to support science education. Bio-Rad's scientists and engineers participate in the Ask an Expert online advice forum to answer students' questions about various science projects and help them develop and execute their science projects. These mentors also submit project ideas for science projects and/or volunteer as science fair judges. Several student projects that used Bio-Rad's Biotechnology Explorer™ kits have been published on the Science Buddies website.
