This specially designed packing motor used to adjust the height of the adaptor and pack the column via axial compression is available for all Bio-Rad process-scale columns. The packing motor eliminates manual adjustment of the central screw. Use of the packing motor can improve normal packing results by allowing constant packing speed. This feature also allows a consistent and fully automated packing procedure. The packing motor is attached to the central screw of the adaptor and is controlled by a variable frequency drive.

Motorized axial compression is strongly recommended for columns of diameters between 200 and 1,000 mm; it is compulsory for columns of diameters 1,000 mm and greater.

The motor is controlled by a variable frequency drive installed in an electrical cabinet. The speed of the top piston can be easily adjusted with the potentiometer.
