Intended Use
RAPID’E.coli ™ O157:H7 medium is a selective chromogenic agar for the detection, isolation, and presumptive identification of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in human food products and environmental samples.
Simple Protocol
RAPID’E.coli O157:H7 medium provides laboratories with a rapid and economical solution for E.coli O157:H7 detection, with one plate required per sample. Easy confirmation using latex is also validated from isolated colonies on RAPID’E.coli O157:H7 agar.
Other Protocols
RAPID’E.coli O157:H7 medium can also be used
- As a second selective medium in different standardized protocols (for example, ISO 16654 reference method)
- To confirm positive PCR results of the iQ-Check® E.coli O157:H7 kit
Easy to Read
RAPID’E.coli O157:H7 medium permits detection of E. coli O157 serotype H7 using specific chromogenic substrates and biochemical activities. Typical E. coli O157:H7 (sorbitol and β-Glucuronidase) present characteristic convex 1–2 mm diameter dark blue to black colonies. It is possible to detect atypical β-Glucuronidase+ E. coli O157:H7. These strains have characteristic dark blue to black colonies.
Atypical sorbitol + E. coli O157:H7 are also detected. These colonies are blue to turquoise blue.
The selectivity of the medium is improved by adding selective reagents: novobiocin and potassium tellurite.
RAPID’E.coli O157:H7 medium is very specific. Most other bacteria and yeasts are inhibited or present a different color.
