Trichinellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the nematode Trichinella. Humans can become infected by eating infected meat (for example, undercooked pork). Ingestion of rodents by swine is considered the primary source of Trichinella infection in swine.
The Trichinella spiralis antibody test kit is an ELISA-based diagnostic kit intended for the qualitative determination of antibodies to T. spirali in swine sera, plasma, whole blood, or tissue fluid. Turnaround time is less than 45 min. The Trichinella spiralis antibody test kit is the first of its kind to be licensed by the USDA. It uses an excretory-secretory (E/S) antigen that has been purified from the larvae of infected pigs. This antigen features a high degree of specificity for T. spiralis.
