C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

CRP is a pentameric beta-glycoprotein (MW: 110 kD) that activates the alternate complement pathway when bound to the C-protein of pneumococci. Increased CRP is a non-specific phenomenon that accompanies all acute inflammations, infections and some malignancies.
