A variety of accessories are available for Bio-Rad process columns, including Bio-Rad Media Transfer Device, Bio-Rad MainFrame, packing motors, and bubble traps. These components enhance ease of column operation.
The pressure relief valve protects Bio-Rad process-scale chromatography columns and the Bio-Rad bubble trap from damage during loading of media and column operation. An option for any Bio-Rad process chromatography column, the valve can be attached easily with clamp connections to the top of the column (T-connection) or to the cover of the bubble trap. Read more.
Optimize Column Operation and Handling of Media
The Bio-Rad media slurry tank is a stand-alone accessory. It can be used with Bio-Rad EasyPack columns combined with a transfer pump, and it can be used with Bio-Rad InPlace columns combined with a Bio-Rad media transfer device. The tank is available in 100, 300, 500, or 900 L sizes; each has one access lid, one top inlet with clamp connection, and one lower outlet with clamp connection. The tank bottom is sloped for optimized drainability. The tank uses an agitator with a double propeller to ensure that media are mixed properly and a rotating spray ball for cleaning in place. The tank is designed for use at atmospheric pressure. Material certificates, welding certification, surface finish report, pickling and passivation report, and instruction manual are included. The Bio-Rad media slurry tank fulfills several functions:
The Bio-Rad media slurry tank is also suitable for use with other manufacturers' columns.

Pack Process Chromatography Columns Easily Using Bio-Rad Packing Motors
All Bio-Rad process chromatography columns can benefit from the addition of a Bio-Rad packing motor. A top motor adjusts the height of the adaptor and packs the column via axial compression. Use of the Bio-Rad packing motor eliminates the need to manually activate the central screw. The variable frequency drive of the motor enables highly reproducible axial compression packing.
Motorized axial compression is strongly recommended for columns of diameters between 200 and 1,000 mm; it is compulsory for columns of diameters 1,000 mm and greater.
The motor is controlled by a variable frequency drive installed in an electrical cabinet. The speed of the top piston can be easily adjusted with the potentiometer.
Liquid Pump for Bio-Rad Process-Scale Chromatography Column Seals
The liquid pump inflates the seals on Bio-Rad process-scale chromatography columns without the need for compressed air. The liquid pump is mounted on top of the column and allows the seal to be manually inflated. Advantages of the liquid pump:
Glycerol is the standard filling for the liquid pump and inflatable seal, but another liquid can be used if specified by the customer.
Column Accessory Protects Packed Columns From Air
The Bio-Rad bubble trap prevents air bubbles from entering process chromatography columns. The Bio-Rad bubble trap, which is available in 0.8, 3.5, 5.4, and 9.1 liter sizes, can be used with any Bio-Rad process chromatography column. It is easily mounted on a column and is connected to the column with a flexible hose. An additional benefit of the Bio-Rad bubble trap is that it reduces residual pulsation. The Bio-Rad bubble trap is delivered with the inlet and outlet connections capped.
Take Columns Off-Line With Column Valve Accessory
Isolation two-way valves are attached to the process chromatography column inlet and outlet to isolate the column from the environment during downtime or storage. Isolation two-way valves can also be used for priming the central screw. The valves are attached easily with clamp connections at the top and bottom of the column.
Bio–Rad's process chromatography skid 00 is the industry's first compact skid designed for small-scale GMP biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The skid can be interchanged with multiple columns ranging in diameter from 70 to 300 mm with flow rates from 5 to 120 L/hr. To learn more click the video.
