Bio-Rad offers a complete line of gel drying equipment specifically for protein and sequencing gel drying. The drying requirements for protein and sequencing electrophoresis gels differ. Protein gels contain caustic chemicals that corrode conventional vacuum pumps, causing premature pump failure and expensive repairs. The GelAir™ drying system offers the best method for drying protein and agarose gels because it works like a convection oven to quickly dry gels to a perfectly clear, publication-quality finish without a vacuum pump. Sequencing gels have a very large drying surface area. The system of choice for drying sequencing gels is the Model 583 gel dryer and HydroTech™ vacuum pump. The Model 583 gel dryer is a conventional microprocessor-controlled slab dryer with three preset drying cycles and unique thermal flow to reduce drying times. The HydroTech vacuum pump is the perfect vacuum source for any conventional slab dryer. The HydroTech vacuum pump uses water, not vacuum pump oil, so it is easy to use, environmentally friendly, and practically maintenance free.
