Gene Information

This gene encodes a hydrolase that degrades glycosaminoglycans including heparan sulfate dermatan sulfate and chondroitin-46-sulfate. The enzyme forms a homotetramer that is localized to the lysosome. Mutations in this gene result in mucopolysaccharidosis type VII.
