Gene Information

This gene encodes a protein that was first identified in Xenopus laevis by its role in a mesoderm induction early response (MIER). In human this gene functions as a growth-factor-induced immediate early gene that encodes a transcriptional regulator. Depending on the cellular context this gene can function as both an activator and repressor of gene transcription. Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms; some of which contain a nuclear localization signal. [provided by RefSeq Aug 2011]
