Technical Support FAQ

Question:

How many times can a gel stained with SYPRO Ruby be scanned without decay of the fluorescent signal?

Answer:

SYPRO Ruby Protein Gel Stain (1703126, 1703125 and 1703138) is fairly resistant to photobleaching (as compared to other dyes like fluorescein and Nile Red). SYPRO Ruby-stained gels may be scanned repeatedly with little or no loss in sensitivity. Photobleaching occurs after 10–15 minutes of continuous exposure to a 20 W UV box. Gels should not require restaining, but restaining will not cause any problems or produce any artifacts.
