There are two common well heights for PCR tubes and plates:
Instruments with adjustable lids can usually use both high-profile and low-profile wells. These instruments include Bio-Rad's 1000-series and DNA Engine® series thermal cyclers.
Bio-Rad offers a large selection of thin-wall polypropylene PCR tubes and microplates precisely manufactured for optimal fit and cycling performance in Bio-Rad thermal cyclers and real-time systems. The variety of sealing methods, including caps, adhesive seals, and heat sealing films and foils, provides researchers with an array of sealing options to complement all thermal cycling workflows.

Hard-Shell 96-well skirted PCR plates are specially designed to endure the stresses of thermal cycling and robotic handling. The two-component design of this 96-well plate ensures superior stability and flatness.
Hard-Shell 96-well semi-skirted PCR plates arespecifically designed to withstand thermal cycling and robotic handling with a two-component design forsuperior stability and flatness.
Hard-Shell low-profile semi-skirted PCR plates are compatible with many thermal cyclers, including Applied Biosystems fast instruments. These 96-well plates have a patented two-component design to provide superior stability and flatness.
Hard-Shell 96-well 480 PCR plates are optimized to work on the Roche LightCycler 480 real-time PCR system. These plates are specifically designed to withstand the stresses of thermal cycling and robotic handling.
The polypropylene construction of Multiplate PCR plates confers very low protein binding and excellent retention of sample volume. These plates can be easily cut when less than a full 96-well plate is needed.
The versatile unskirted 96-well plate design with full-height (20.70 mm) wells makes these Multiplate PCR plates ideal for laboratories using Bio-Rad or other PCR instruments.
iQ 96-well PCR plates are semi-skirted plates optimized for iCycler iQ, iQ5, and MyiQ real-time PCR detection systems. These plates are recommended for PCR volumes of 5–125 µl (330 µl maximum).
These plates are compatible with instruments requiring full-height PCR plates such as Applied Biosystems DNA sequencers, thermal cyclers (except fast cyclers), and real-time PCR systems.
Microseal 96-well skirted PCR plates feature low-binding polypropylene construction and a skirted design suitable for high-throughput microplate handling. Recommended for PCR sample volumes of 5–125 µl.
Concord 96-well PCR plates have been used in PCR and other thermal-cycling applications for many years. Thin-wall polycarbonate construction allows excellent heat transfer. For PCR volumes of 20–150 µl.
