Sabouraud Chloramphenicol Agar is recommended for the selective isolation of yeasts and filamentous fungi from biological specimens presenting mixed fungal and bacterial flora. The peptones and glucose of the Sabouraud medium promote the growth of fungi. The addition of Chloramphenicol, a heat-stable, broad-spectrum antibiotic, inhibits the growth of the associated bacterial flora and allows the selective growth of fungi. This medium is recommended for the culture of biological specimens presenting an abundant associated bacterial flora, such as sputum, stools, nails and hair. It is available in a choice of 2 formats.
