RQI (RNA Quality Indicator) Number

RQI (RNA quality indicator) is a number (on a scale of 1–10) that is automatically generated for mammalian eukaryotic total RNA samples. An RQI of 1 is highly degraded, while an RQI of 10 is highly intact total RNA. RQI enables users to easily judge the integrity of their total RNA sample in addition to the visual aid of the electropherogram and reported ribosomal peak area ratio.

When the RNA concentration is too low to accurately determine an RQI value, a message is displayed in the RQI Alert column of the summary page. The checkbox to override the low RNA concentration alert is indicated by an arrow, The default setting are: , 1 ≤ RQI ≤ 4; , 4 < RQI ≤ 7; , 7 < RQI ≤10. The actual cutoff values for specific applications have to be determined empirically.

Intact Total RNA

The Experion RNA StdSens and RNA HighSens analysis kits provide accurate assessment of RNA quality prior to downstream experiments. The kits offer rapid single-step purity assessments and the ability to analyze 1 to 12 samples in approximately 30 min. Sample concentrations in nanogram (RNA StdSens analysis kit) or picogram (RNA HighSens analysis kit) amounts can be analyzed. Refer to the specifications tab for more details.

The Experion automated electrophoresis system can also be used for a number of upstream and downstream workflows in other nucleic acid and protein applications.
