Diabetes Assays

The detection of anti-islet cell antibodies by immunofluorescence on a pancreas substrate is considered the gold standard for diagnosis of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM – Type I Diabetes). The concentration of these antibodies are often highest just prior to the onset of Type I diabetes and diminish progressively afterwards. Thus, use of this assay allows for early prediction of disease onset.
