RE:Microsoft Global Security Update
Microsoft operating systems recently experienced a security vulnerability resulting from a widespread ransomware attack through Microsoft’s network environments on a global scale.
Microsoft has distributed a security update (patch) that fixes this vulnerability for their various operating systems.
Bio-Rad’s internal IT team has evaluated the technical details of the Microsoft security update and has approved the patch. Please note that Bio-Rad’s instruments are not vulnerable to this security breach; however, computers attached to Bio-Rad instruments might be, depending on the operating system used. Bio-Rad has approved the Microsoft patch to be installed on these attached computers.
If your organization has not yet installed the Microsoft security update on your instruments,
Bio-Rad recommends that the security update is installed as soon as possible by following the steps below:
- Work with your IT team to install the Microsoft security update as the timeframe of the installation will depend on the vulnerability of your particular network.
- Be sure to back up your system prior to installing the security update.
- Install the Microsoft MS17-010 Security update found in the “Microsoft Update Catalog” at http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=MS17-010
