2008-10-29

HERCULES, CA — October 29, 2008 — Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: BIO and BIOb), a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, today introduced the ProteinChip® SELDI Standardization Suite, designed to ensure that ProteinChip SELDI systems provide consistent, reproducible results over time, operators, and locations.

Clinical, biological, and biomedical researchers within academic, pharmaceutical, medical, clinical, and industrial R&D environments need consistent and reproducible results. Unlike complicated mass spectrometry tuning operations, the ProteinChip SELDI Standardization Suite, through its simplicity, accessibility, and ease of use, offers researchers increased confidence in their results.

The various products, services, and kits included in the ProteinChip SELDI Standardization Suite are:

  • ProteinChip System Starter Kit: A complete training tool with reagents and video tutorials, users can follow the step-by-step instructions and learn the basics from reading ProteinChip arrays to profiling human serum and analyzing the results for reproducibility and peak count. The kit also provides data evaluation tools along with tips and suggestions to obtain the expected results from the ProteinChip SELDI system.
  • ProteinChip Data Manager Software 3.5: Improvements include print compliance that reports directly from the software when using the ProteinChip OQ and ProteinChip System check kits; a new interface reduces data analysis and annotation time. The software also incorporates an updated installer and facilitates database connections.
  • ProteinChip OQ Kit: Specifically designed for use in regulated laboratories, researchers can use the kit to perform detector calibration and generate reports to show ProteinChip SELDI system reader compliance to nine operational specifications for sensitivity, resolution, and mass accuracy. One kit provides 3 months of detector calibration and compliance reporting.
  • ProteinChip System Check Kit: Performs detector calibration and generates reports that show ProteinChip SELDI system reader compliance to four operational specifications for sensitivity and resolution.
  • ProteinChip Detector Calibration Kit: Provides data the ProteinChip SELDI system reader uses to automatically adjust the detector voltage. These adjustments help maintain a constant gain, stabilizing the output over the detector's lifetime.
  • ProteinChip Peptide Mass Calibration Kit: Prepared with a matrix and seven peptides, this kit can perform external mass calibrations in the peptide regions in as little as 10 minutes. Also included in the kit is a mini-CD with the starter kit video tutorial illustrating the calibration procedure.
  • ProteinChip SELDI System Components Upgrade: The upgrade service replaces critical instrument components and subassemblies if found defective or at a lower revision than current factory specifications. The service includes a complete system evaluation, parts installation, calibration, and optimization.

"Bio-Rad is committed to and invested in SELDI technology, and it is focused on improving the quality of our customers' results," said Julie Hey, SELDI marketing manager, Bio-Rad. "The ProteinChip SELDI Standardization Suite empowers our customers with the tools they need to achieve success in their experiments."
